My Poor Sick Boy

Jacob has been soooo sick this past week. It's so sad to see this little tough-guy suffer. He had the worst cold with a cough and congestion. He would look at me and stare with the most pitiful look on his face, like, "Can't you help me??" We spent a lot of time in the rocking chair, and mealtime was nothing like the hungry monster he normally is. I couldn't help but pick up the camera and snap a picture after his lunch the other day. Thankfully he is much better now....just in time for Mama to get his cold and sore throat. :(

Little Mr. Parrothead

We are having a beautifully warm day in SoCal today...so Jake & I took advantage with some warm-weather shorties and a little outside excursion. He got another chance to wear his little 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' Parrothead outfit from Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in Key West, FL that Uncle Allen & Aunt Sabra got him. Such a handsome little Parrothead!
Drinkin' up...

"License to Spill" -- and 'spill' he does! Reaching for the camera, as usual.

Steppin' outside...

Bird watching...

I'm the cutest Parrothead ever.

Say Ahhh!!

We have this new game that Jacob & I play...it's called 'Say Ahh'. This little scrounger will find any random thing to put in his mouth (usually paper), and all I see is something going in, or else I see his mouth chewing, when he's obviously not supposed to be eating anything. It has proven nearly impossible to pry his little teeth apart to see what he's put in his mouth, so our new game is much more fun. I open my mouth wide and go "Ahhh!!!" and he thinks this is so funny, that he does it too. Lo and behold there is a chunk of paper in his mouth that I can easily grab. Jacob thinks this new game of showing Mommy what's in your mouth is so fun, that he plays it all the time, including when he's eating Cheerios. He was being especially silly yesterday morning... :)

Happy Birthday Uncle Greg!

Today is Uncle Greg's 50th birthday - wow! Jacob & I wish you a fabulous birthday and a great birthday week! So in honor of Greg's birthday, I will finally post some of Jacob's long-awaited birthday pics.....

Now let it be known, that Jacob did not just have ONE birthday cake....he officially had six of them. Yup. His mama (that would be me) made him a cake on his first birthday, including his own personal 'baby' cake (which he is digging into, above). Then for his party, the cake place made him what I call a 'dyslexic cake', below:

I was horrified after seeing this cake! I wanted to tell the bakery that if my son ends up dyslexic, I was going to blame them for messing up his very first party cake. But after my neighbor Elisa was nice enough to call and tell them they made Jacob a backwards cake, they volunteered to quickly bake another one, promising to not make it dyslexic again. Along with this big cake came TWO little cakes! Enter the final, and sixth, birthday cake....
He lovvvved the blue icing, and for some reason decided that it felt good to smear it down his neck. He had blue icing from his nose to his collar bone....but isn't that what birthday cakes are all about?! :) Every time he saw me get out that blue cake in the next few days, he went crazy wanting some of it. Once he about climbed out of his highchair when he saw the cake on the countertop.
First picture of the day on his birthday, Jacob had the whole blanket wrapped around his head, and his body was perched up on top of his stuffed giraffe in his bed. And he was actually sleeping this way...His morning bottle from Grandma...(with one froggy slipper missing):
A sip from Grandma's coffee cup:
A quick peek in the garbage can:
Birthday bath in the kitchen sink - woohoo!
Sucking the water out of the washcloth:

Happy to be clean......

Jacob's 1st Birthday!!

Today is Jacob's very 1st Birthday -- Happy 1st Birthday my little son! It's hard to believe one whole year has passed since that day... the day that my doctor called me in the morning in the middle of my breakfast and said, "Pack your bags, you're having a baby today!" She would not let me eat another bite of breakfast (and little did I know then, that I would not have another bite of food for three days!). Jacob arrived at 4:57 pm that afternoon, with a healthy set of lungs and an even healthier appetite. Fast-forward to 365 days later.........(which is just unbelievable to me that so much time has passed)..

We've had a wonderful day, with sunny (but chilly) weather, good naps (three of them!), fun new presents and even yummy birthday cake. We went outside to play, and Jacob had a ball walking in the street and practicing his running. He also found a bright colored fire hydrant that he couldn't get enough of. He got cards and gifts in the mail today, so he had quite the collection of birthday presents to open. He especially liked the fun-colored tissue paper that came with the gifts. Grandma & Mama told him "Happy Birthday" so many times today that he actually started saying "app-app" for 'happy'!! He was enamored by the candle on the top of his own little cake, and ate the cake like it was a meal he had been waiting for.

It was a wonderful day and I'm sad to see it end.

Happy 1st Birthday my sweet boy! Mama loves you!!

Catch-up Pictures

Ok, I know it's been a while since I've posted anything. It's been a whole month since I've uploaded pictures from my camera...thanks to the fact that I left the cord at home in CA, so I had to borrow Mom's neighbor's cord, which thankfully works! So I want to back up a little, to Thanksgiving, because these pictures are just too funny not to share...
The Thanksgiving Feast: Jacob's plate full of turkey and trimmings is ready to be devoured. (By the way, this was his first ever plate of 'table' food...and he loved, and ate, every bite.)
Remnants: "I'm so full I have to drink sideways...."

Admiring Grandma looks on as Jacob hams it up for the camera. Judging by the smile on his face, being so full must have agreed with him.

Beans 'N Cornbread

Jacob has had lots of 'firsts' this week, including his first down-home southern meal, beans and cornbread. I mashed up the beans for him, and helped break up the cornbread for him, and he loved every bite (he mostly feeds himself). He even followed it up with some of Grandma's homemade apple butter. He absolutely loves table food, so much that he actually rejects his bottle nowdays. So I have to give him his bottle before he lays eyes on 'real' food...otherwise the bottle is like yesterday's newspaper -- not one bit interested!

He also cut another upper tooth, which brings his total tooth count to five. He's had a hard time with these upper teeth so far, waking up often at night crying, and having a hard time getting back to sleep. I got him some teething tablets (which other moms swear by), but I have to say they haven't done a thing for him. Last night he even pushed my hand away when I tried to give him one, as if to say, "Get that junk out of my face." Poor little punkin...he is so good-natured, though, that during the day he never cries...except when he bumps his mouth -- ouch!! I almost cry myself when I see him bump his mouth.

Tonight we're going to see Santa Claus again at Grandma's church. The menu is pizza, so we'll have to take something a little more palatable for babies. Should be interesting to see him on Santa's lap again!
